Lance Wicks

Perl.Kiwi 🐪.🥝

Home for my software development in the Perl programming language.

This is where I want to share things primarily about the underrated programming language that is Perl. I also want to use this space to talk software development more generally and about other languages and my experiences with them (for example I recently wrote some applications in Elm, and I run a website written in Go).

My name is Lance Wicks and I have been writing software in Perl and other programming languages since I was a teenager. I am fortunate to have been able to work as a full-time software developer in Perl. I now work as a Software Development Manager for a large UK recruitment website (mainly C# and some Perl), this site is for my personal projects to stretch my hands on development muscles.

The main area of the site to explore will be the Tales section which will be an irregularly updated blog.

Chat with me

Along with this website; I will be using @PerlKiwi to stay in touch with people. I plan on doing more live coding session on Twitch/Youtube/Twitter, check out the TV area for that. And if opportunity arises I'll continue to talk at events (see Talks).

Please do email me at lance@perl.kiwi, I'd love to hear from you.

I started creating this site in late January 2021; so everything is new and unrefined. So please be patient as I work out the bugs, typos and so forth.

Community

One of Perl's strengths has always been it's community at that remains true. So you may find me (in non-pandemic times) at one of the meetups near to me:

or if I want to travel a but further:

Thanks

  • James Raspass - Who has been a great development partner over the years and helped choose this domain name.
  • Mohammad Anwar - Who does so much for the Perl community and motivates me to do more!
  • Sawyer X - Long live the last of the PumpKings. A nice human; kind and enthusiastic, thanks for all your efforts.
  • Katherine Spice - Who along with being an amazing (former) boss, is a great mentor AND has contributed to the Perl community hugely!
  • Larry Wall - The creator of Perl who has given so much to us all.
  • ... and everyone else!
